Element
New Vector Ltd was founded in 2017 and is the primary commercial entity behind the Element messaging platform and the Matrix open standard for decentralised communication. The company is headquartered in London and builds clients for web, desktop, iOS, and Android that connect to the Matrix network.
Element provides end-to-end encrypted messaging, voice, and video calls, with support for bridging to other platforms such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, and WhatsApp. Because Matrix is a federated protocol, organisations can host their own server while remaining interoperable with the wider network. Element has been adopted by the French government, the German armed forces (Bundeswehr), and NATO for secure internal communications.
The company has raised funding from European and international venture-capital sources. It also offers Element Server Suite (ESS), a commercially supported deployment of the Matrix server stack for enterprises and government agencies.
